PURPOSE: - Materials Engineer / Metallurgist
To provide consultancy services in all aspects of materials engineering technology and mechanical engineering support to the business and their customers. Particular requirements of this role would be associated with support to the Gas to Liquids (GTL) group (a key growth area) in the development of its proprietary catalytic reactor technology.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
To promote and apply leading edge expertise in materials engineering technologies and practices to enable the development of winning business options.
To deliver solutions to business problems for the company and its customers (e.g. in designing, fabricating, maintaining, repairing, and trouble-shooting their plant equipment) by applying leading edge expertise in materials engineering technologies and practices.
To develop partnerships with commercial and academic suppliers of leading edge materials engineering technologies and practices, worldwide, to enable the business to exploit best available materials engineering technology in its products and processes.
To sustain world-class materials engineering expertise, and disseminate it within the business through training/coaching interactions as part of an on-going personnel development programme.
To provide support to the expert skill base in mechanical engineering capability that ensures the proprietary reactor technology development continues to lead the market, offering elegant and economic solutions.
THE PERSON
Ideally you will have experience of high pressure & hot/fired equipment in the oil/gas/chemicals industries and have encountered/participated in the area of Metal Dusting corrosion. They will be an effective team player, strong decision taker, & an imaginative problem solver able to deliver practical cost effective solutions.
The role requires a very experienced, chartered materials engineer with deep skills and knowledge in metallurgy, corrosion, materials selection, welding and fabrication, inspection and NDE, and a career history consistent with world standing as a materials engineering consultant to the chemical/ petrochemical industries.
You will have a track record of adding value through the application of materials engineering technologies in equipment development, major capital projects and manufacturing plant support roles in the chemical/ petrochemical industries.
Deploying best available technologies/ practices to the advantage of the business and its customers, you will need strong influencing/ consultancy skills consistent with interacting globally up to VP/ Director levels across R&T, engineering, and manufacturing functions within the chemical/ petrochemical industries.
You will have developed wide ranging contacts with commercial and academic suppliers of leading edge materials engineering technologies and practices, and will provide guidance on the competencies and selection of local suppliers of technologies and practices, worldwide.
You will have an expert understanding of relevant aspects of national and international codes and regulations relating to the selection of materials and inspection of equipment for the chemical/ petrochemical industries.
You will be expected to operate anywhere in the world dictated by the business interests of the company with attendant, wide cultural diversity, and limited managerial support.
Ideally you will have mechanical engineering experience of pressure vessel design and plant operational problem solving. This experience would preferably be in the high temperature and pressure arena with experience in the synthesis gas, refining or related industries.
You should preferably bring a mix of experience, expert knowledge and imagination, with the ability to ??think outside the box? and an ability to address issues that are not amenable to normal coded methodology.
